Relationship Counselling

Relationship Counselling: Who is it for?

The answer is simple.  Relationship counselling is for everybody.

Everyone at some point in their lives feels the need for extra help to just make sense of it all.

Our relationships can be the most fulfilling thing in our lives, but sometimes they are the most painful and destructive things. Our relationships can make us feel on top of the world, but relationships (or the lack of the them) can also make us feel like the world is on our shoulders or plunge us into misery and despair.

Here are just a few of the issues and problems that clients have brought to me during my fifteen years as a relationship counsellor in Peterborough:

  • Jealousy
  • Affairs
    • Dealing with the shock of discovery
    • Unable to get over a past betrayal
    • I can’t stop thinking about it”
  • Lack of trust
  • Poor communication (“you just don’t understand me”)
  • Addiction to pornography
  • Lack of communication (“we don’t talk anymore”)
  • Conflict over parenting
  • Feelings of insecurity
  • I love you but I’m not in love with you”
  • Being taken for granted
  • A lack of intimacy or no interest in sex
  • Violence or other abuse
  • Constant arguing

If you recognise any of these issues in your relationships, or are experiencing any other issue that is preventing you having the relationship you want, you could benefit from relationship counselling.

Do you despair of ever being in a healthy relationship?

Sometimes people think that relationship counselling is just for people currently in relationships. This is definitely not the case. Sometimes the people who can benefit most from relationship counselling are currently single. Therefore relationship counselling can help you if you are:

  • Single but wanting a fulfilling relationship
  • Feeling lonely and isolated
  • Trying to recover from a previous break up or loss of a partner
  • Making the same relationship mistakes over and over again
  • Avoiding intimate relationships through shyness or anxiety
  • Always attracted to the ‘wrong’ people.

How I can help you?

Whether you are currently in a relationship, getting over the end of a relationship or single and looking for a new relationship, if you are experiencing problems or issues that are preventing you having the kind of fulfilling relationship you want, I am ready and able to help you make positive changes to your life.

Perhaps you want to work on:

  • Improving your communication (just one session can make a HUGE difference!).
  • Ending the arguments
  • Feeling better about yourself
  • Becoming more confident
  • Forgiving and trusting
  • Healing after a painful experience
  • Overcoming jealousy and insecurity
  • Ending destructive or abusive behaviour
  • Grieving the loss of a relationship
  • Moving on
  • Forming a relationship with the right kind of person
  • Becoming more assertive
  • Improving things in the bedroom (see my Sex Therapy page).

Whatever it is you need, I offer a safe, supportive and confidential place for us to explore your issues, understand them and effect long-lasting change. Whether it is just one or two sessions to help you think more clearly, or longer term work to address some deep seated issues, I am friendly, non-judgemental and will always have your best interests at heart.

My experience and training as a Peterborough Relate counsellor and therapist enable me to draw on a wide range of skills and techniques to provide you with exactly what you want and need.

Our counselling sessions will be tailor made for you and your unique circumstances.

What’s the next step?

I believe that everyone can benefit from counselling but I understand that it can be a difficult and daunting step to take. It takes courage to open yourself up to someone who is (to begin with) a stranger, and the choice of counsellors can be bewildering.

Because I understand how difficult it can be to take the first step and choose the right counsellor, I try to make things as straight forward, and affordable, as possible.

Your next step is to contact me to discuss your situation and how I can help you. You can do this by:

Phone: 07538239230 (call or text, which ever you prefer)

Email via the Contact Page.

If you do not hear back from me immediately it may be because I am with clients. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

If, after our initial contact, you decide you want to take things further we will book your first session. All sessions with me are a full hour and during the first one we will discuss your issues in more detail and plan a way forward.

To give you more confidence in taking this first step in to counselling and getting the help you need, the first session is FREE.

At the end of the first session, if you decide not to continue with me then I will do my best to point you in the direction of another counsellor or organisation that can help you. Your well-being is always my main priority.

If you decide to continue with me, counselling sessions are £40 an hour, whether you are coming as an individual or a couple. Sessions are usually weekly but don’t have to be and can be flexible enough to fit in with your busy life.

If you have any questions, are ready to book your first session, or want to sound me out on your issues, please contact me now in whatever way is most convenient to you.

Take the first step to having the fulfilling relationship and the happy life that you deserve.
